What’s Happening at St. Peter’s

Vacation Bible School begins on Monday! Please join us for G-Force Adventure Park August 3rd – 7th 9:00 AM – 12:30. At G-Force Adventure Park, your children will meet Checkers the cheetah. They will discover an interactive, energizing, Bible-based program that will give them an opportunity to experience GOD’s Love in action. After a high-energy opening assembly at the G-Force Zone, children will participate in the scripture zone for an interactive bible lesson. Children will participate in a variety of activities, crafts, and music and recreation zone. They will also enjoy a tasty treat in our snack zone. Please call Mary Cheney with any questions (860-537-5067) or the office (860-228-3244).
Chicken BBQ – As has already been said, the BBQ was a huge success so much so that we sold out, and people who came after 5:30 had to be told to come back next year! The workers worked so hard (and they didn’t even get fed). Thanks so much to one and all: those who worked, those who contributed and those who came to eat! We netted $2307
Memorial Garden — Group Weeding!!– The Weekly Weeders are back in business again! Now that the weather is nice, come join us and help keep our Memorial Garden beautiful! We meet every Monday evening from 6:30 to 7:20. We do what we can in 50 minutes and close up shop at 7:30. Then we usually stick around and chat for a while – very nice! Bring your gardening gloves and whatever tools you normally use to weed like clippers, trowels, scratchers, rakes, etc., as well as a hat and bug spray. We have extra tools if you need them. It’s a nice way to get outside, visit with friends, and keep our garden looking beautiful!
The Altar Guild needs YOU! If you would like to participate in the life of St. Peter’s but you like the quiet life lived at your own pace, the Altar Guild is the place to be. It is a very meaningful and important ministry. Setting up for services, caring for the linens & the service implements (chalice, the paten- the small plate that holds the wafers, etc.) is a very rewarding activity. If you need to learn the ropes, you will get all the support you need. Please contact one of the altar guild committee (Judi Babin, Barb Parkyn, Ellen Kramer, Liz Cyr), and they will be happy to explain the job to you.
The Building & Grounds Commission is looking for volunteers to help with cutting the grass at the Church, Phelps Hall and the Rectory. Please feel free to contact Curt Kraemer (860-537-4517) or Rick Marks(860-228-3833) if you would be available to help. Please give this some consideration we’re only talking about 4 hours of your time over a six month period.

IRIS and the Episcopal Diocese of CT Establish a Covenant Relationship – Last Monday evening the vestry voted to allocate $300 from the Rector’s Discretionary Fund to support the work and ministry of Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services (IRIS). The donation was in response to an appeal from former Bishop of Connecticut Drew Smith and Morad Mokhtari, a refugee from Iran who recently became a U.S. citizen. I have a personal interest in the work of IRIS and plan to match any additional donations from the parish up to $300. Please join me in supporting this very special outreach venture. Let’s see if we can send $900 or more by August 9! I will be sharing more information with you about the work of IRIS when I return in August. Bishop Smith’s appeal letter is found printed elsewhere in this bulletin. For more information on IRIS please go to their website at www.irisct.org Fr. Perry.
