On Sunday 8:00 a.m. Rite 1 & 10:00 a.m. Service of Morning Prayer Service
we celebrated the Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost.
The Second Lesson: James 5:13-20
Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise. Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up; and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. Elijah was a human being like us, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain and the earth yielded its harvest.
My brothers and sisters, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and is brought back by another, you should know that whoever brings back a sinner from wandering will save the sinner’s soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

- Church School is off to an exciting “new” year! We begin our morning @ 9:55 with a prayer circle for primary and intermediate-age children (and parents if they’d like can join us), then go to individual classes for discussion and follow-up of a Bible Story; we join our families for Communion at 10:45. Our youth classes have not yet started, but we will be sending out information soon. Classes include: Pre-K/K – Sarah Messenger, Kelsi Marks & Robin Messenger; Grades 1-3 – Barb Parkyn; Grades 4-6 – Rob Mangiafico; Youth – Judi Babin. Our support staff includes – Robin Messenger, Barbara Alexander, Mary Cheney and Allison Forrest. Our church website will have church school information available soon – please check it out! Tuesday, September 22 -Choir practice 6:30-8:15 pm
Every Wednesday 7:00 p.m. — Holy Eucharist with service of Healing. A lovely, quiet soul-refreshing informal service.
Thursday, October 1st at 7:00 p.m. Foodshare has registered 12 families in our local area who are eager to participate in their nationally acclaimed program “Getting Ahead: Bridges Out of Poverty Program.” To make the program work, 12 volunteers are needed to serve as mentors and cheerleaders for these families as they work to reach the goals they have set for themselves. The meeting will be held at the AHM Youth & Family Services Building, 25 Pendleton Drive, Hebron. A brief overview of the program and volunteer commitment will be explained. Questions regarding the program will also be answered.
Friday, October 2nd – set up for Pumpkin Festival during day/evening. Bring in fall or Halloween-related in tag sale items. We already have some decorations and costumes.
Saturday, October 3rd from 9-4 p.m. and Sunday, October 4th from 12-4 p.m. we will hold the 2nd Annual Pumpkin Festival. Silent Auction (all items have to be in by Thursday Oct. 1st). For the first time, there will be a Silent Auction featuring a wide variety of items. Featured are items such as a weekend at Cape Cod, a Crate and Barrel lamp, Cabela’s rifle case, Michael Kors handbag, a black evening bag with white gloves, two William Sonoma gift Cards $250 and a wide variety of Lia Sophia & other jewelry. Now is your chance to make a great purchase at an amazing price!
All proceeds will benefit St. Peter’s Kitchen & Hall Renovation Fund. Many of you might not realize our old kitchen was built in the 50s and many new regulations have to be followed including a special hood for stove, new electrical system, another sink and dishwasher. We would like to continue having our church and community dinners. A new addition will be added to the side of Phelps Hall. We serve approximately 160 meals once a month to people of all ages.

Sunday October 4th 2 pm RAIN or SHINE we will hold the annual Blessing of the Animals service to celebrate St. Francis of Assisi patron saint of animals on his special day. Bring your animals, large or small, to this lovely service at Saint Peter’s. We will also be collecting pet-related items (cat food, dog food, litter, etc.) to be donated to local animal shelters. If anyone would like to have a pet’s ashes interred in the memorial garden in the section devoted to animals, please bring them on Sunday.

A message from the choir loft: Stop on by and lend us your voice!!! Don’t be shy –CALLING ALL SINGERS!!!! The choir is looking to add some Tenors and Basses to our ranks. Sopranos and Altos are always welcome too. Any men or women that would like to sing come join us Sunday mornings at the 10 am service to sing. We meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 – 8:15 and Sunday mornings at 9:05 to rehearse. Anyone interested please come and talk to the organist (Josh Ziemski).
Ministry Opportunity– St. Peter’s needs chalice bearers for the 10 am service. Current- ly there are only three people who are called on multiple times a month to help Fr. Perry serve the Eucharist on Sundays. It is a very meaningful ministry. If we can increase the number and get more people trained (very easy) the assistants would only have to serve once every month or so. If you might be interested, please speak with Fr. Perry!
The office of Mission Integrity and Training is offering a one-day special event on Sat. Oct. 17 for people who want to learn more about keeping a healthy, safe church and have questions related to social media, elder care, LGBTQ matters, and welcoming the differently-abled. Over the past few years, these four topics have prompted the most questions from Safe Church Training attendees. Free. Acolyte training JoAnn Osmond announced that she would be starting another session of Acolyte training and invited anyone interested (8 years old or older) to attend. Classes will be held after the 10 am service and will last about 20 minutes for 6/7 weeks.
