What just happened??!!!
On Sunday at 9 am we celebrated the Tenth Sunday after Pentecost
Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For it is on him that God the Father has set his seal.’ 28Then they said to him, ‘What must we do to perform the works of God?’ 29Jesus answered them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.’ 30So they said to him, ‘What sign are you going to give us then, so that we may see it and believe you? What work are you performing? 31Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, “He gave them bread from heaven to eat.” ’ 32Then Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly, I tell you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33For the bread of God is that which* comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.’ 34They said to him, ‘Sir, give us this bread always.’ 35 Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’
Kitchen Renovation Fundraising Committee Progress:
On July 30th the Committee met at the Ostrout’s and enjoyed a lively planning session lead by Rick and Laura Beaudoin for the upcoming Pumpkin Festival. The Committee’s recommended “Next Steps” to getting the fundraising for the Kitchen Project underway have been sent to the Vestry for a vote at their August 10th meeting.

Mondays: 6:30 to 7:20 every week. Memorial Garden — Group Weeding!!- The Weekly Weeders are back in business again! Now that the weather is nice, come join us and help keep our Memorial Garden beautiful! We do what we can in 50 minutes and close up shop at 7:30. Then we usually stick around and chat for a while – very nice! Bring your gardening gloves and whatever tools you normally use to weed like clippers, trowels, scratchers, rakes, etc., as well as a hat and bug spray. We have extra tools if you need them. It’s a nice way to get outside, visit with friends, and keep our garden looking beautiful!

The Altar Guild needs YOU! If you would like to participate in the life of St. Peter’s but you like the quiet life lived at your own pace, the Altar Guild is the place to be. It is a very meaningful and important ministry. Setting up for services, caring for the linens & the service implements (chalice, the paten- the small plate that holds the wafers, etc.) is a very rewarding activity. If you need to learn the ropes, you will get all the support you need. Please contact one of the altar guild committee (Judi Babin, Barb Parkyn, Ellen Kramer, Liz Cyr), and they will be happy to explain the job to you.
The Building & Grounds Commission is looking for volunteers to help with cutting the grass at the Church, Phelps Hall and the Rectory. Please feel free to contact Curt Kraemer (860-537-4517) or Rick Marks (860-228-3833) if you would be available to help. Please give this some consideration we’re only talking about 4 hours of your time over a six month period.
Nuts and Bolts!
IRIS (Intergrated Refugee & Immigrant Services) and the Episcopal Church in Connecticut have established a covenant relationship, and St. Peter’s is joining this mission initiative. At its last meeting the vestry voted to allocate $300 from the Rector’s Discretionary Fund to support the work and ministry of IRIS. The donation was in response to an appeal from former Bishop of Connecticut Drew Smith and Morad Mokhtari, a refugee from Iran who recently became a U.S. citizen. I have a personal interest in the mission of IRIS and before leaving on vacation indicated my intent to match any additional parishioner donations for this effort up to $300. If you wish to add your support for this outreach venture, please make you contributions no later than this coming Sunday. If you want more information about IRIS please go to their website at www.irisct.org. Whether you choose to donate or not, please keep IRIS, their staff and volunteers, and the refugees they support in your prayers. Thank you! – Father Perry
